Hobbyists make models out of plastic, wood, paper and other materials. The types of models the fascinates me most are those made of paper. You may ask what so special about such models. A hobbyist can just cut out the various parts of a design from a flat sheet of paper and glue the parts together to form a three dimensional model. As technology improves, designers of paper models are able design models that look very much like their plastic counterpart. Items that are represented as paper models include aircraft, figurine, ships, and buildings. Off course, other kinds of items can be represented as well.

With the Internet, the hobby of paper modeling is spreading much faster than before. There a quite a number of websites on this topic, and the number is growing. For example,
www.raicardmodel.com has paper models of aircrafts, and figurines based on famous battles and scenes from popular fairy tales. There are also online forums on the paper modeling you may join. One can be found at http://groups.msn.com/PaperModeling.

The increase of the popularity of paper modeling may be due the fact that paper is cheaper than plastic, users may download designs of models, and the design can reprinted as many times as possible for personal use. One may also save of paint as the most designs were already prepainted.
